Sunny Day at Riverside Ranch
It is the second day of spring and still the entire farm is under about 3 feet of snow! We are getting a little sick of winter around here. The firewood pile is down to the last hurrah and still we are getting way below freezing temperatures. The horses are getting a little tired of the hay but of course gobble up everything I put down for them twice a day.
Velvet, a filly was injured last Friday. She had a very badly swollen eye. There was no cut but it was not looking good. A girlfriend of mine came out and we gave her a shot of penicillin Friday night. The swelling started going down the next day and is almost gone now. The horses are mean to each other and I think that she banged it on the wall or post trying to get away from Dakota (the boss hoss).
She will recover. She is such a sweetie. Last year at this time she was born in the middle of the night and it was sooo cold (-25 C). We stayed out there with the mom (Shadow) until 3 in the morning. Of course she didn't have her while we were there. I was back out there at 7:00 am and Velvet was there!
I would love to put a photo of her up on the blog but I don't know if it will work. I'll give it a try.
